AUGUST 2018 RULES / BANLIST UPDATE
There hasn’t been any particular change since the last announcement in the metagame. It is changing, new decks have emerged, with different mechanics, no one seems to be taking the lead nor to crush the others at a level that would require change. The arrival of new editions with lots of legendary creatures and the newest Commander editions added some interesting cards that are already played by many people. Recent tournament results show great diversity.

The next announcements will be published on November 26, 2018 (applying on November 30, 2018).
Until then, we wish you all many good games! 🙂

This format simply works better than ever. Thanks for all the efforts you put into shaping this great format!

I would suggest to check partners again. I think its quite unfair to have card advantage in command zone without downside. Atleast make the tax affect both for one being cast.

Commander with Dominion that gives +3+3 should be banned from this format

So…playing some more recently, here are the big flags being raised:
1)Partners are just too much still. Having a 98 card deck isn’t enough of a drawback, and with the “Commander Storm” cards they have a pretty high power level. Additionally, flipping forth between them means you always have that extra two mana that you would normally have to pay for a single Commander.
Lastly, they reduce opponent strategy choices by forcing us (non-Partners) into reductive builds with repeatable edicts/kills, narrow cards like Engineered Plague, etc.
2)Yuriko is silly as heck. She is not as bad as in regular Commander, where you can just Mystical Tutor for Dig Through Time and axe 10 off their heads, but it’s still problematic to be cheating the command tax as Derevi did (and she got banned in a hurry). Additionaly, she is super linear as all she does is an “Edric Strat” of flooding with weenies, forcing either Engineered Plague or a quick Elesh Norn or…whatever. Adelize kinda does the same thing, but isn’t as bad due to no extra card draw.
3)Give Red a little back by either unbanning Sulfuric Vortex or Price of Progress or Fireblast. Not all three, NOT all 3…just one of them. Kari Zev is fine right now, but with so many good stuff decks around, some punitive blowback would be nice.
Keep an eye on the Enchantment Commander as well, as stated previously the permanent buff is a little good.

With the recent change to 20 life aggro decks have taken over this format, which posses a big threat to the variety of decks/strategies in the meta. Either you play aggro or you have to build heavily against it and hope to draw removal in your opening hand.
Please change the starting life total back to 30, or this format will become heavily scewed towards playing aggro.

So I know we are a week away from an announcement, again some feedback.
Partners are still a little too good for a one v. one format.
Since Wizards will keep printing various ones, just nip in bud now.
Yuriko is still fairly obnoxious, but has trailed off recently.
“Playing from activated from CZ” is still pretty bleh.
The more I play, the more I think some sort of combo enabler should get unbanned. Whether it’s Entomb or Food Chain (this might be tooo crazy, but it might geta reprint soon in Ultimate Masters) or whatnot, right now the meta seems to be: 1)Lots of low to ground critters (White weenie, Kari Zev, Elves, etc) 2)Controllish shells (Leovold, Clique, Baral, Kess) 3)Partners of some sort, which just grind value train.
There aren’t really combination decks of note. I mean, you can Painter’s Grindstone or Helm Leyline or Storm with Kess, but a “fairly” conistent combo would not be terrible at this point. It would be countered by control, and would put down weenie decks, etc.
Anyway, games are being had and are being fun, but another change or whatnot would be nice.
Merci!

I would recommend to unban marath to solve all the issues that velocipede centripede stated.
anyway, I believe duel commander works very very well at the moment and probably has the highest deck, strategy and single card use diversity it ever had. so better don’t change a very well running system not too much if you are in doubt.

Well my opinion is simply. First I think you have to consider to balance types of playing (aggro and control).
If we look the difference between duel com. and online com., on duel aggro is at almost 60% of the game, control on 35%. While on online is the other way around. I am not saying to put control on most of the games but balance would be good start.
Unbanning some control commander in duel would an idea to consider so the partners, yuriko and kari zev possibly would have a good counterstrike and would not be so easy to play/win anymore.
Where we are playing duel, this is group of 20 people in total and 2-3 of them are playing partner decks ( most common: tmnya/kraum, akri/kraum, akri/silas) and they blast off most of the games and even if they don’t win, they are at least between top 3 or top 5.
Others are playing kari zev ( where magus and blood moon are just poison for other multicolor deck and still playable but tell me why back to basics for example is banned and blood moon isn’t?). Then there is leovold, kess, doran, atraxa, saskia, augustin, tajic, scarab, anafenza, skrithryx, karlov etc. and yes, at all year playing score top 3 decks winning: 1. partner, 2. kari zev, and 3. a war of all other decks. So there you go: killing control so the aggro decks will rule the world of magic. And that’s not a right think to do.
If we look on banned commanders, most of them are control type. I agree that some of them are just sick and hard to play against, but as an old player of lovely geist aggro/control deck I think in this days of playing it’s everything too much focused on aggro.
I think you should consider to unban one control commander and maybe some blue cards and you will see that games would be more fun to play and the game would be balanced.
