MAY 2019 RULES – BANNED/RESTRICTED UPDATE
Since our last update, no major or unpleasant change has been seen, neither in the results nor in the metagame, top X decks, most played cards, archetypes, etc. It seems like the winds of diversity kept blowing on everyone’s minds. A few new archetypes appeared, adding even more possibilities to the format, so did some new commanders, some really older ones, and the result is a healthy and still very competitive format. With Modern Horizons ready to storm the format we stated as follows:
Changes:
👉 Individual card changes: No changes.
👉 Rules changes: No changes.
👉 Other changes: No changes.
The next announcements will be published on August 30, 2019 (applying on August 31, 2019). Until then, we wish you all many good games! :)

Ikr. It already feels like people intentionally didn’t use their partner decks in recent tourneys just to get under the ban radar.

partner seems fine to me but what about balance? somehow my opponents won like 85% of the time when they did cast balance when playing partner. partner makes an already broken card just plain ridiculous because of the extra card advantage he has when he waited playing his commanders before playing balance.

I’m playing Duel commander now. Multi commander banned out Paradox, and as I’m not willing to rework everything, I’ll pitch Sol and do this thing now. Saving me big dollars on the mana base also. Maximum Bueno.

Partner mechanic and Urza will likely see a ban in August. Urza is almost a guarantee at this rate and partner mechanic should just to diversify the format even more since they can still be used individually..just not together as commanders. The pure card advantage of partners is just not necessary.

Its card advantage but they are far less powerful than the non partner options in their respective colors. Also partners Help diversity alot since they give color pairs a viable commander choice they didnt have before….

Diversity is good but an additional card at no cost at the start of the game is a significant advantage. A new rule such as applying commander tax even to a previously uncasted partner is a good way to mitigate this without drastic changes to the format.
